New for 2023: The DB IC cars as a completely new construction by PIKO on a scale of 1:160. The groundbreaking concept of the IC '79 was introduced by the Bundesbahn at the beginning of the summer timetable in 1979 with the well-known slogan "Every hour, every class". This new way became necessary because the purely first-class Intercity trains could hardly be operated economically at that time due to the continuing loss of passengers. With the introduction of the second car class, the clock was increased to an hourly rhythm. Desired reductions in travel times were achieved through the expansion of many routes and the increase in maximum speeds. To further save time, these accelerated trains no longer had luggage and mail cars and were divided into blocks of 1st class, dining cars and 2nd class for quick transfers in the junction stations. After the success of the concept, the IC network was expanded from four to five lines in 1985. To this day, the IC represents an important backbone in long-distance rail transport.
