This steam locomotive was in use on the French State Railways (SNCF) from 1947 to 1973. The type designation is called “141.R.” Where “141” refers to the axle sequence, namely (seen from front to back) 1 running axle, 4 drive axles and 1 running axle. At SNCF, «R» is the name for the type of locomotive. The number “1244” is a consecutive numbering, here the locomotive No. 1244 of this series.
