In the course of the oil price crisis, a universal concept for the electrification of the route network of the Deutsche Reichsbahn was created

Bundesbahn AG, the locomotives were continued as the 143 series. It was now used nationwide. After reunification, the 112 series was developed as the successor model. Now the top speed was 160 km / h
realized. With its low top speed, the former BR 243 is increasingly falling victim to scrapping.
The last copies will probably be retired in 2021.
