Description
Manufactured by Motive Power Inc (MPI), the MP36PH is a commuter service locomotive that is utilized by regional transit agencies all across the United States and Canada. For the Virginia Railway Express, the sleek, modern MP36PH is the first original locomotive series that the railway has operated, their previous passenger equipment being rebuilds and carry-overs from ex-Amtrak service, and represents the growing potential of commuter service in the US Capital region. Their often distinctive and colorful paint schemes serves to make these locomotives the "figureheads" for local commuter service.
>The MP36PH locomotive will use a sophisticated lightpiping and LED system to give it directional headlight and taillight functions across all six of its nose lights, as well as illuminated pre-printed numberboards for push/pull operation.
The locomotives' heavy duty five-pole motor and mechanism is designed to pull a 10 car bi-level consist up a 4% grade without the need for a traction tire.
The locomotive has a DCC friendly mechanism for easy upgrades from out-of-the-box analog control.
Equipped with knuckle couplers.
