The Consolidation Locomotive with a wheel arrangement of 2-8-0 was the prime mover for freight trains from the 1880's through 1910. After that year members of that class forged on powering local freights and mainline freight trains of lesser lengths. Consolidation Locomotives were present on almost every American railroad roster. Some railroads added a steam line (for train heat) to a few locomotives within their roster so this class could be used in passenger train service as well. When so-equipped, 2-8-0 locomotives were used in excursion service, special trains to local events like state fairs and for powering troops trains. A few railroads including the PRR used the 2-8-0 extensively in yard service as well rather than purchasing larger fleets of switching locomotives. Broadway Limited used the most common details to replicate a standard prototype that was built all major locomotive manufacturers between 1900 and 1915 for all US railroads as well as some export orders. The AT&SF locomotive model is numbered and decorated for the class 1950 that were built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1907. The Santa Fe used several of this class to create mammoth 2-8-8-0 locomotives. Those rebuilds were not successful and the elements were restored to 2-8-0 locomotives. Locomotive #1951 has been preserved and can be viewed adjacent to the Amtrak Station at Pauls Valley, OK.
